I can never draw Thranduil right, grahhhh //hulk smash.

I wanted to draw him a little differently from his usual apathetic disdainful look.. if any of you are as obsessed with Tolkien as I am then you will know in the War of the Last Alliance, Thranduil and his father Oropher (the king at the time) led a lightly armoured army to fight Sauron. During the fight Oropher and 2/3rds of their army were wiped out on the dead marshes. After the battle was won, Thranduil led a tiny portion of their original army back to the Greenwood.
So people who say that Thranduil is an ass for not helping Thorin, he genuinely just didn't want any more harm to come to his people, especially after such a tragic experience.

Then again I still feel bad for Thorin... oh well.

Hope you like it!

Yes. I agree. I'm a geeky person like you are that knows about this stuff. I really like this piece.

Thranduil probably would have helped if he had come sooner when the Dwarves weren't basically wiped out already. The bulk of the fighting of the dragon would have fallen on his people and even elves have a hard time standing before such great and ancient foes.

I hope they explore more into his character and "humanize" him a bit. All of the other elf leaders are highly respected so they might want to villainize him a bit to make a point, but give reasons for his actions (like you did) and give him an interesting father/son relationship with Legolas in the movie. Make him come out of this situation better and more hopeful than before.

I knew that he and Oropher was in a big battle, but I never made the connection that his elves are the ones in the dead marches. Very interesting

I think what Thranduil did is quite understandable... not very heroic, but I would probably have protected my own people, too. Come on, it was a huge dragon xD
Nice work :)
